Since someone is going to ask: what do you call them?
![]() 05/22/2016 at 17:51 |

That’s pop here in Kansas, not soda.

Pretty accurate

What if a “4 by 4" is two wheel drive? Is it still a 4 by 4?

Quiet, commie!

It’s “coke” in the only country that matters: Texas.

Kansas is wrong

Estate agents (same origin as “realtor” as both refer to real estate)
Jeep or pickup (yes, a Toyota isn’t a Jeep. It can be a jeep though)
Sweets
Discs
Soft or fizzy drinks

Texas is so full of itself, it’s like a living stereotype. I’m half Texan and loathe going to visit family.
![]() 05/22/2016 at 18:06 |

We use pickup and discs here sometimes as well.

Cars come with disc brakes, but we call them brake rotors when we ask for them at the parts counter...

Probably or maybe that makes it a Jeep or an off roader. To be honest, I’ve lost track on what to call them.

Now that’s weird.
![]() 05/22/2016 at 18:17 |

Usually jeeps or pickups here, in that order.

On many things, yes.
On pop vs. soda vs. coke, no.

In regards to Texas: Well, that’s just like your opinion, man.
In regards to your family: Perhaps the feeling is mutual?

Living in London, I wonder how many of people I know could even tell me what a pickup was.

Oh, they could. Just not the four wheeled variety.

It’s nice that they wanted to support the music school’s novice class by letting them play for the ceremony

The Soda one is regional. In parts of Texas, everything is coke. But in Kansas it is mostly pop or soda.

It’s Egypt’s actual military band, and I love it way too much:

Real estate agents
Utes (everything with a tray is a ute unless its a cabover truck)
lollies
discs
fizzy
We still have 4 by 4's or 4 wheel drives but those are different from SUV’s. A Landcruiser is a 4x4, a Hyundai is an SUV.

To be accurate, “realtor” really only refers to members of the National Association of Realtors. Everyone else is typically called a real estate agent, which isn’t much different.

Well they might use it in Oz but I’m from NZ, its the same as a bed on the back of a single or dual cab.

I actually like that nomenclature for SUV/4x4. With the advent of crossovers, we need a term for what remains to be "real" SUV's.

had this discussion wiht my aussie brother just the other day.
apparently the key you are looking for is the “A” in the statement, as in “A 4wd” or “A four-by-four”. Thus denoting the “type” of vehicle, not that actual capability of its drivetrain.
He then said I’d become too American, and it was time for me to move home...
and then a few days later he had bought a Hilux... so, I guess he won that argument.

“Candy”? Are you telling me that’s just an Americanism? But this song was written by Englishmen, or anyway an Englishman and an Irishman who was born in London!
